The Snaith School Humanities

The Modern languages department currently offers French to all pupils at all levels of ability. We have two full-time staff and one part time who all speak French.

All pupils learn a foreign language in year 7.  The same language is taught to the whole year group across the key stage.

The department has previously enjoyed trips to both France and Germany, which have proved very popular with pupils.

This year provides pupils with an opportunity to develop their understanding of time and place. We look at the different Monarchs through British History up until 1603, and how they were able to keep power and control. Pupils begin by developing their understanding of how time is measured and organised. It is designed to develop confidence with chronology. Historical skills such as bias, using evidence and interpretations are also introduced in the first half term. Pupils move on to study a unit which explores the Romans and the nature of historical evidence.

Religious Education at The Snaith School is a highly successful and challenging subject and boasts some of the best results in the school. In RE we challenge pupils to develop their own opinions whilst being fully aware of the reasons that people form opinions that may be vastly different from their own.

The Department is made up of: Mr G. Gardner (Head of Department), Mrs S. Kears and Mrs H. Yates.

In a dynamic and rapidly changing world, the importance of Geography in the curriculum has never been greater.  Geographical issues constantly fill the news ranging from Global Climate Change and its impacts to local population change and development of villages around Snaith.  Despite wide ranging coverage of such issues, it is critical that the next generation of adults are able to question and interpret the world around them to allow them to make their own informed decisions.
