Snaith Leadership Team

Having got to know The Snaith School through my children attending, I was delighted when the opportunity arose to apply for the headship in 2016.  I was already enjoying a successful headship post in Castleford, West Yorkshire but I was keen to work within my own community. My time at Snaith has been challenging, unpredictable but very rewarding. The pupils are well mannered and hardworking and their parents/carers are very supportive of their ambitions. Equally, we have a great team of staff at Snaith and they are committed to the trust's vision of creating 'better lives' and nurturing our young people to be ready for their future.

On joining The Education Alliance, my role has become even more exciting and interesting. Through collaboration across the trust, The Snaith School is on a journey to be even greater.

Prior to headship, I have been a senior leader, literacy consultant and a passionate teacher of English. In my spare time, I am an avid reader and I have written English textbooks for Oxford University Press. Spending time with family and friends is really important to me and I do try to fit in the occasional Saturday Morning Park Run.

Mrs Yates - Deputy Headteacher

Since qualifying from Teacher Training in 1996, I have had experience in different secondary school settings. Before teaching at The Snaith School I worked in a very large 11-18 school in Wakefield.  In my time at The Snaith School I have had a variety of differing roles. I first joined the school in 2000 as Head of RE and a year later undertook the role of Head of Year.  I have always been heavily involved in the pastoral and safeguarding aspect of the school, as a Head of Year, and Assistant Headteacher and now as Deputy Headteacher.

Teaching RE is still my passion; however, I believe that providing excellent pastoral care that focuses upon the whole student (personal, social, and academic) enables students to reach their potential. This I believe is one of my great strengths.  As Deputy Head of the school, I lead a large team of staff who provide excellent support for our pupils.  This includes the Heads of Year, our Student Services Team, the SENCO, our Infinity (SEND) and Aspire Team and the Careers Team. Together we work hard to provide a whole school approach that aims to create an ethos of well-being, engagement and improved academic achievement.

Throughout my time at the school, I have undertaken a variety of leadership roles, these have included leading teaching and learning, pedagogical development and research, leading CPD for school staff, and focusing upon those staff who are just beginning their careers as teachers, namely RQTs, NQTs and ITT.

Whatever role I have undertaken at the school I have thoroughly enjoyed it as Snaith is such a great place to work.  This year is my 20th year at the school, which is testament to the fact that this school is such a wonderful place.  In this time the school system has seen a great deal of change, Snaith I believe, has always been at the cutting edge of new developments, whilst always remaining committed to putting students at the front and  centre of the decisions that are made.  That reason alone makes me proud to work at the school.

Mr Wilson - Director of Pastoral Carerw

I started teaching in 2001 in Halifax at The Ridings School; at the time the school was dubbed “The worse school in England”. In my first full year of teaching I became the Assistant Head of Alternative Provision for the school. The ethos was very much about making sure every child achieves their potential to ensure they were able to move on with the next stage of their lives. The school was in special measures at the time and we worked hard as a team to significantly improve this grading by 2005.

In September 2005 I was lucky to get a job at The Snaith School. During my time here I have held several positions including; P.E. teacher, PSHCE coordinator, Head of Years 10 and 11 and finally Assistant Headteacher. During my time in senior leadership at the school I have been responsible for several areas including Pastoral, SEND, Safeguarding, Admissions, Children who are Looked After and Attendance. In my current role I am responsible for the Safeguarding and Wellbeing of all pupils and Whole School Attendance, alongside teaching P.E. which I still love to do.
