Welcome

GCSE Photography (AQA)

Through is first years as a GCSE course the Photography GCSE has proved very popular.  Pupils and the department have achieved outstanding results, to match that of the Art course.

Pupils are encouraged to explore dark room techniques, learn about different features of the camera. Pupils are also encouraged to learn image manipulation techniques through Photoshop. Pupils also broaden their understanding of appropriate artists and processes.

GCSE Photography follows the same Assessment objectives as GCSE Art.

The curriculum in  Yr 7 & 8 allows pupils to learn some basic skills using Photoshop editing skills. We also aim to provide some camera skill activities in Yr 8. In Yr 9 of KS3 pupils are able to choose Art or Photography as a specialism, this allows pupils to explore the subject before they opt for GCSE’s later in the year.

Year 9

As an introduction to the expectations of the GCSE Course pupils will explore a variety of photographic concepts, all in response to artistic influences. They will begin to develop awareness of the Assessment objectives; AO1 Artist Research/Cultural Influence, AO2 Media, Ideas & Development, AO3 Recording observations through drawing ,media, photography & annotations. AO4 Presenting a personal response, realising intentions.

Year 10

Term One – Pupils explore photograms as their introduction to photography, developing darkroom techniques. Pupils also explore drawing with light as a form of Art. Pupils develop researching skills, looking at artists who have worked in these mediums.

Term Two – Pupils begin a ‘Macro’ project, learning about settings on cameras and producing quality, edited photographs. Learning how to develop ideas and present their work well. Pupils will introduce artist research into their work. Analysing artists work and producing a range of initial ideas, then refining, modifying and developing ideas, eventually arriving at a personal response that concludes the project.

Term Three – Pupils will be given a past exam question – developing their independence and ability to produce personal responses to a starting point.

Year 11 - (Same structure as Art GCSE)
