At The Snaith School we understand both the importance and relevance of Drama and recognise the wide range of ways Drama can influence and develop pupils in today’s society. Drama is an exciting and creative subject that allows all pupils, of all backgrounds and abilities, to learn in a different and imaginative way. Pupils develop their confidence and performance skills while working in groups
and individually.

Key Stage 3 Information

Year 7
Pupils will be given an introduction to basic drama skills, where the lesson promotes the ethos ofbuilding pupil’s confidence and developing creativity and team work skills.

Topics covered in Year 7:
Introduction to Drama, Fairy-tale and Fantasy, The Zoo and Greae

Year 8
Building on the basic Drama skills developed in Year 7, pupils start to challenge themselves in variety of practical and written tasks. Pupils expand on the skills developed in Year 8 and the schemes of work prepare pupils for GCSE Drama

What is the course about?

GCSE Drama is a largely practical subject involving working in groups to prepare scripted, improvised and devised drama. Set text plays will also be read, discussed and analysed. You will be developing acting techniques and skills and directing.

Who is it suitable for?

You should enjoy practical Drama and be able to write essays confidently as most of the written work is in this format. This course builds self-confidence, communication skills, creativity and the ability to work as part of a team. It would be an ideal course for anyone wishing to work with the public, e.g. working with children, police, sales, teaching, banking, hairdressing, law etc. A good attendance is necessary since it is almost impossible to 'catch up' with practical group work, and group members are dependent upon each other for their practical assessment marks.
