Welcome

Religious Education at The Snaith School is a highly successful and challenging subject and boasts some of the best results in the school. In RE we challenge pupils to develop their own opinions whilst being fully aware of the reasons that people form opinions that may be vastly different from their own.

The Department is made up of: Mr G. Gardner (Head of Department), Mrs S. Kears and Mrs H. Yates.

 

Key Stage 3 Information

In Key Stage 3 pupils learn about the most popular religions in the world. pupils start Year 7 by understanding the need to learn RE. Year 7 have 2 x 1 hour lessons per week.

The Units include:

  1. An Introduction to RE at Snaith School
  2. Christianity
  3. Judaism
  4. Islam

In Year 8 we progress the pupils further in their knowledge by looking at some of the more complex world religions and apply our learning to complex world issues.

The Units include:

  1.  Humanism
  2.  Ethics
  3.  Radicalization and Extremism
  4.  Hinduism

 

In year 9 we investigate how teachings are put into practice in everyday life.

The Units include:

  1. Jesus’ Teachings
  2. Ethics
  3. Racism
  4. Islamic Life
  5. Worship

Key Stage 4 Information

GCSE RE starts in Year 10 and is completed in Year 11. All pupils study the WJEC/EDUQAS 9-1 RE Route A.

Component 1 - Religious, Philosophical and Ethical Studies in the Modern World – 2 hour examination.

Theme 1:Issues of Relationships

Theme 2:Issues of Life and Death

Theme 3:Issues of Good and Evil

Theme 4:Issues of Human Rights

Component 2 -  Study of Christianity – 1 hour Examination

Component 3 – Study of a World Religion: Judaism – 1 hour Examination

Next Steps

Post 16 courses are taught at most colleges. RE is also good preparation for Philosophy, Sociology and Law
